Final Fantasy 14 Stops Automatic Housing Demolition Shortly After Restarting It

Final Fantasy XIV Suspends Housing Demolitions Due to California Wildfires

Square Enix has temporarily halted the automatic demolition of player homes in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers.

The suspension, implemented on January 9th, comes just one day after the company resumed the automatic demolition timers, which are typically set for up to 45 days. These timers are a mechanism to free up housing plots for inactive players and Free Companies. Players can reset their timers by simply logging into their homes. However, Square Enix regularly pauses these timers during real-world events that may prevent players from accessing the game, such as natural disasters. The company will announce a resumption date once the situation is assessed.

This is the second such pause in recent months. A previous suspension, lasting three months, was enacted following Hurricane Helene.

The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the game. Other events, including a Critical Role live show and an NFL playoff game, have also been affected.

While the current suspension provides a reprieve for players who may be unable to log in due to the wildfires, the duration of this pause remains unknown. Square Enix assures players they will be notified when the automatic demolition timers are reactivated. The company also expressed its support for those impacted by the fires. The ongoing situation adds to an already eventful start to 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, following the recent return of a free login campaign.
