FF7 Remake Trilogy: PlayStation and Beyond
FF7 Remake Part 3: A PS5 Launch is Confirmed
PlayStation fans can breathe easy. During a January 23, 2025 interview with 4Gamer, Kitase directly addressed concerns about the release history of the previous installments, stating definitively, "No, you can rest assured about the next one (FF7 Remake Part 3)." The game will launch on PS5.
While the PS5 is mid-lifecycle, the eventual arrival of the entire FF7 Remake trilogy on a potential PS6 remains unknown.
FF7 Remake Part 3 Release Date: Still Under Wraps
Square Enix remains tight-lipped on the release date. Development, however, reportedly began alongside FF7 Rebirth, fully ramping up post-release in February 2024. Leveraging assets from previous games and a completed story draft suggests a potentially sooner-than-expected release.
Hamaguchi offered a positive progress update during a January 23, 2025 Famitsu interview: "It’s going very well...We are progressing without any delay from the schedule we planned when we launched the remake project, so we hope you will look forward to it."
Kitase expressed satisfaction with the completed story, stating, "At least I'm very satisfied with it, so I'm sure it will be a conclusion that will satisfy the fans as well."
Timed Exclusivity Expected for FF7 Remake Part 3
A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report indicated PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy.
Following the pattern of previous installments (FF7 Remake: one-year PS4 exclusivity; FF7 Remake Intergrade: six-month PS5 exclusivity; FF7 Rebirth: timed PS5 exclusivity before a January 23, 2025 PC release), Part 3 is likely to follow suit with a PS5 exclusive period before releasing on other platforms.
Square Enix's Multi-Platform Strategy in Response to Declining Sales
Despite the FF7 Remake's critical and fan acclaim, Square Enix's March 31, 2024 financial report revealed declining HD title sales. The company cited increased development and advertising costs. In response, they announced an "aggressive multiplatform strategy," encompassing Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. This shift suggests future Square Enix titles, including potential future FF7 content, could reach a broader audience beyond PlayStation.
