Boss battles in *The First Berserker: Khazan* can be incredibly challenging, especially if you're not fully prepared for the twists and turns they throw at you. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to defeat the formidable Blade Phantom, ensuring you're ready for every phase of the fight.
Phase 1
The ghostly voices haunting Khazan finally take form in the Trials of the Frozen Mountain level on Stormpass as the Blade Phantom. This formidable foe will test your ability to balance stamina and aggression amidst its relentless attacks. This is also your first encounter with a multi-phase boss.
The battle begins in a castle with floors flooded by a crimson liquid. The Blade Phantom typically unleashes a variety of attacks, including:
- A six-hit combo consisting of four punches and two kicks, with the second kick being delayed.
- A three-hit combo with two punches followed by a downward kick.
- A four-hit combo starting with a right hook, followed by two kicks, and ending with a leaping kick smash.
- A three-hit combo with flashing punches, followed by a grab that you must dodge.
In addition to these melee attacks, the Blade Phantom can summon a giant hammer, causing damage and red spikes to appear in front of it. If it wields a spear, prepare for a quick throw followed by a teleporting smash. When using a blade, it will perform a swift six-hit combo. It can also disappear and dash around the battlefield before striking.
Mastering the timing for parrying or dodging these attacks is crucial. Seize the opportunities between its moves to attack and deplete its stamina, setting up for a Brutal Attack. Continue this strategy until you reduce its health to about half, triggering the second phase.
Phase 2
The second phase kicks off with the Blade Phantom unleashing four claw attacks, followed by a high spear throw. Evade the area where the spear lands and brace for a leaping swipe. This is followed by three greatsword slashes and a concluding hammer smash.
While the Blade Phantom retains many of its previous moves, it introduces new claw attacks, a spear thrust with a follow-up, and swift dual-wielding attacks ranging from four to six sets. It also teleports more frequently. When wielding the greatsword, be vigilant for multiple slashes culminating in a Burst Attack, signaled by a red P-like symbol on the screen. Use the Counterattack (L1/LB + Circle/B) to parry this move successfully, restoring your stamina and leaving the boss vulnerable to further attacks.
Exploit the moments when the Blade Phantom's stamina is depleted to launch your attacks, and only initiate the Brutal Attack when the window is nearly closed. This strategy maximizes damage and paves the way for victory. Upon defeating the boss, you'll be rewarded with 8,640 Lacrima, Soul Eater gear items, a Shieldsman’s Ring, and Netherworld Mineral for crafting.
