Crunchyroll Releases Kardboard Kings, a Card Shop and Collector Simulator

Crunchyroll has recently enriched its Android vault with the addition of Kardboard Kings, a captivating single-player management game where you step into the shoes of a card shop owner. Originally launched for PC in February 2022, this game has been developed by the talented team at Henry's House, including Oscar Brittain and Rob Gross, and published by Akupara Games. Following successful ports to consoles, Kardboard Kings is now accessible on mobile devices, thanks to Crunchyroll. If you're a Crunchyroll member, you can download this game for free from the Google Play Store.

What’s the Deal in Kardboard Kings?

In Kardboard Kings, you assume the role of Harry Hsu, who has inherited a card shop from his father, a renowned card collector and former champion of the iconic card game Warlock. As the new shopkeeper, Harry embarks on an exciting journey into the world of card trading, buying, and selling.

Harry isn't alone in this venture; he's joined by Giuseppe, a clever cockatoo with a sharp tongue and an even sharper eye for lucrative deals. Together, they manage the shop, which is nestled in a picturesque seaside location. Your mission is to keep the customers satisfied, though you have the option to engage in some light-hearted mischief by overcharging for a quick profit.

The game is filled with charming, sarcastic characters and nods to other card games and anime. With over 100 unique card designs featuring quirky illustrations and shiny variants, the cards themselves are a delight to collect and trade.

What’s the Gameplay Like?

Starting with the basics, the gameplay revolves around the classic strategy of buying low and selling high to maximize profits. As you delve deeper, you'll encounter fluctuating card conditions and set rarities, with factors like foil finish, abilities, and popularity influencing each card's value.

Kardboard Kings also introduces a roguelite deckbuilding mode set on Card Game Island, where you can challenge formidable duelists. You can also organize tournaments, host booster pack parties, or hold clearance sales to manage your inventory effectively.
