US Blocks Marvel Snap Due to TikTok Restrictions

Second Dinner, a studio based in California, developed the popular game Marvel Snap, which is published by Nuverse, a subsidiary of ByteDance. Unfortunately, due to the ban on several ByteDance apps, including CapCut and Lemon8, Marvel Snap was also removed from iOS and Android platforms on January 18, 2025. This sudden discontinuation has left many players frustrated, particularly those facing authorization issues. However, PC users can still access the game via Steam. The developers at Second Dinner expressed their surprise at the situation and are actively working to bring the game back online. In an official statement from Platform X, they reassured players:

“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress”.

One of the most frustrating aspects for players was the lack of prior warning. Many continued to spend money on in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout. While Marvel Snap was affected, not all ByteDance apps faced the same fate. For example, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable.

In other news, Marvel Snap recently introduced a new card, Moonstone, which is part of the game's Ongoing archetype. Moonstone, a 4-cost, 6-power card, is a much-needed addition to the meta. Her unique ability allows her to copy the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane. Given the current pool of low-cost Ongoing cards, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which typically only boost power, Moonstone's ability to gain these effects for free can significantly enhance her impact on the game.
