"Award-Winning Documentary Game Atuel Coming Soon to Android"

Matajuegos has exciting news for gamers: their surrealist documentary game, Atuel, is set to launch on PC and Android later this year. The game's Steam page is now live, allowing eager players to pre-register. Google Play pre-registration will be available soon, so keep an eye out for that.

Hailing from Argentina, Matajuegos is an indie co-op that first released Atuel on itch.io back in September 2022. The game quickly caught the eye of the gaming community for its unique mix of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking, dreamlike visuals.

Atuel's innovative approach didn't go unnoticed; it won the ‘Innovation in Experience Design Award’ at IndieCade 2022, along with several other accolades as a pioneering documentary game. It has also been featured at prestigious venues such as the Marché du Film at Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Curious to see what Atuel is all about? Check out the trailer below.

What Do You Do in Atuel, the Documentary Game?

Atuel dives into the story of the Atuel River Valley in Argentina, a stunning area grappling with the effects of climate change. Rather than a traditional game, Atuel offers an immersive experience where you shapeshift into various animals and elements of the ecosystem, allowing you to become part of the landscape itself.

You might find yourself soaring through the sky one minute and flowing as the river the next. The game also features real-life interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and locals, who discuss the region's history, its current state, and the looming impact of climate change.

To bring these compelling stories to life, Matajuegos teamed up with the international documentary team, The 12.01 Project. The visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, add an almost otherworldly quality to the game.

While waiting for Android pre-registration to open, you can visit the Steam page or the official website for more details. Once Atuel hits mobile platforms, it will feature localization in seven new languages and full controller support.

In the meantime, don't miss out on our coverage of another exciting new release, the open-world ski and snowboard game, Grand Mountain Adventure 2.
