Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expansion Leak Surfaces on Steam

Summary

  • The first DLC for Assassin's Creed Shadows, 'Claws of Awaji,' has reportedly leaked on Steam.
  • The expansion will feature a new region, weapon type, skills, gear, and more.

Details about the first expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows, titled "Claws of Awaji," have reportedly surfaced on Steam, stirring excitement among fans eager for more content in the feudal Japan setting of this action-adventure series. Assassin's Creed Shadows marks the franchise's first foray into East Asian culture, a setting long-requested by the community.

The game introduces dual protagonists, a Samurai named Yasuke and a Shinobi known as Naoe, allowing players to experience 16th-century Japan from two unique perspectives. Despite high anticipation since its reveal, the journey to launch has been fraught with challenges for Ubisoft Quebec, including backlash over the new protagonist and multiple delays.

Recently, a now-deleted update on the game's Steam page hinted at the upcoming "Claws of Awaji" DLC, according to Insider Gaming. The leak suggests that this expansion will take players to a new region, introduce a new weapon type, and offer new skills, gear, and abilities. It promises over 10 hours of additional gameplay, enhancing the Assassin's Creed Shadows experience. Notably, those who pre-order the game will gain access to the Claws of Awaji DLC and a bonus mission.

Assassin's Creed Shadows DLC Leaks, Coincides with Latest Delay Announcement

The leak emerged shortly after Ubisoft announced another delay for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Initially set for a November 15, 2024 release, the game was first postponed to February 14, 2025, and now further delayed to March 20, 2025. Ubisoft cited the need for additional time to "polish and refine the experience," much to fans' disappointment.

As Ubisoft Quebec gears up for the launch, Ubisoft faces an uncertain future amid rumors of a potential buyout by Tencent. This speculation comes after a challenging period for the company, with recent titles like XDefiant and Star Wars Outlaws receiving lukewarm responses and failing to meet financial expectations.
