Assassin's Creed Shadows Faces Another Delay, Now Targeting March 20, 2025
Ubisoft has announced a further delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing its release date from February 14, 2025, to March 20, 2025. This marks the second delay for the title, initially slated for a November 2024 launch.
The publisher cites the need to integrate player feedback as the primary reason for this latest postponement. This contrasts with the first delay, attributed to internal development challenges concerning historical accuracy. Ubisoft's Vice President and Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Coté, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering a polished and immersive experience, facilitated by ongoing player interaction. Both delays, according to Coté, provide crucial additional time for refinement and polishing.
The September 2024 delay, which shifted the release by three months, prompted Ubisoft to offer pre-order refunds and free access to the game's first expansion. While no similar compensation has been announced for this five-week delay, the shorter timeframe might mitigate potential player backlash.
This second delay could also be linked to Ubisoft's ongoing internal investigation into its development practices. The company, despite its overall success, experienced record losses in its 2023 fiscal year. The investigation aims to create a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and incorporating fan feedback into Assassin's Creed Shadows could be a direct outcome of this initiative. The revised release date is now set for March 20, 2025.
