Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2

by Joseph Mar 29,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, much like other action RPGs, you'll find a range of ways to enhance your character's power. Some methods are straightforward, while others require a deeper understanding of the game's mechanics. Let's dive into how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2* to supercharge your gear.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Unlocking the ability to anoint your amulets and Waystones is a mid-game feature. You'll need Distilled Emotions, which you can only acquire from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original game, you'll recognize Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten varieties to collect: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method for obtaining Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random mix of emotions upon completion. However, you can also acquire them through currency exchange or the trade market if you're looking for specific types.

To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, head to the Reforging Bench. By combining three of the same type, you can create an upgraded version, giving you more control over the emotions you need for anointing.

For a more challenging approach, you can try your luck with Simulacrum waves, which have a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. Keep in mind, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to tackle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing is currently available for both Waystones and amulets, with potential future expansions as the game evolves in Early Access. To anoint an amulet, select a Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is not critical. Place your amulet in the central box and fill the three bottom boxes with the required Distilled Emotions. The specific emotions needed for each anointing ability are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to view the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect isn't permanent. You can re-anoint your amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt your skills to your evolving build.

The same anointing process applies to Waystones, which can make them more challenging but also yield better loot. Note that you cannot anoint corrupted items, whether they are amulets or Waystones.

With these insights, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, tailoring your build for optimal performance, or challenging yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
