MotorSim 2: Your Land Vehicle Performance Calculator
MotorSim 2 is a powerful tool for simulating the performance of land vehicles. This application is a physics-based simulator, not a driving game; it focuses solely on straight-line acceleration performance.
By inputting technical specifications, MotorSim 2 calculates and displays performance data. The interactive simulator includes a speedometer, tachometer, throttle, brake, and gear shifting (manual or automatic). It features procedurally generated engine sounds (not samples) and visually tracks vehicle position along a 1/4-mile track. Saved simulations ("ghosts") allow for easy performance comparisons between different configurations.
Configurable vehicle parameters include:
- Maximum Power
- Power Curve (point-by-point definition)
- Torque Curve (automatically calculated from the power curve)
- Maximum Engine RPM
- Gear Configuration (up to 10 gears)
- Resistances (drag coefficient (Cx), frontal area, and rolling resistance)
- Vehicle Weight
- Tire Size
- Shift Time
- Transmission Efficiency
Calculated performance parameters include:
- Maximum Speed
- Acceleration times (0-60 mph, 0-100 km/h, 0-200 km/h, 0-300 km/h, etc.)
- Other performance metrics measurable via the interactive simulator.
