Digital Revolutionizing Devarattam: A Mobile App Tribute

This application, a product of my "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" project, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of Devarattam. It honors Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman (retired teacher), Kalaimani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, recipients of the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards, respectively. My gratitude also extends to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the esteemed legends of Devarattam.

The app serves to showcase Devarattam and its renowned practitioners. Devarattam, a traditional Tamil Nadu folk dance, boasts a rich history, performed for generations by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. While containing 32 basic steps, the dance can incorporate up to 72 steps, many being variations on the core movements.

Devarattam dancers gracefully perform, wielding kerchiefs in each hand and adorned with salangai anklets, to the rhythmic accompaniment of the Deva Thunthumi musical instrument.
